The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has urged security forces to address the escalating threat of gun violence to safeguard Uganda’s socio-economic stability.
Her remarks followed the tragic shooting incident last Thursday in Ntinda, Kampala, where Albert Cook Tugume, 33, the brother of KCCA Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura, was killed alongside Barnabas Sabiti, who intervened during the attack.
“Last Thursday, the country witnessed an incident of gun violence in Ntinda, where two lives were lost. Aware that security is a vital precondition for meaningful socio-economic activity, I want to urge the security agencies to effectively tackle this criminality and bring those people to book. I want to urge the government to interest itself in this issue,” said Among.
According to Nyanjura, Tugume was shot three times by unknown assailants who fled the scene on a boda boda after the 8 p.m. attack.
Among emphasized the urgency of addressing gun violence and called for swift action to apprehend the perpetrators to restore public safety and trust.
