Police Speak Out on Kiwatule Robbery and Double Murder

The Kampala Metropolitan Police East Region is investigating a deadly robbery incident that occurred on the evening of November 21, 2024, in Kiwatule Central Zone, Nakawa Division, Kampala City.
Details of the Incident
The robbery targeted Mr. Tugume Albert, 34, a mobile money operator, as he prepared to close his shop around 7:00 PM. An armed assailant confronted Tugume, demanding his cash. During the altercation, Mr. Sabiti Barnabus, 30, a boda boda rider, attempted to intervene but was shot by a second assailant stationed nearby.
Despite his efforts to flee, Tugume was pursued and fatally shot. The suspects escaped with a bag believed to contain an unspecified amount of cash.
Investigative Updates
Police responded swiftly, recovering critical evidence from the scene to aid their investigation. A vehicle, registration number UBH 045H, was found damaged by stray bullets. Barnabus was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
Tugume’s body was transported to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a postmortem examination.
Appeal for Public Assistance
The Kampala Metropolitan Police extended condolences to the families and friends of the victims and reassured the public of their commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice. Authorities have urged anyone with information relevant to the investigation to come forward.
